Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm)
A student after finishing D. Pharm can be used as a pharmacist registered in the Community Pharmacy (medical store/chemistry) or a hospital pharmacy. D. Pharm is the minimum qualification for practising pharmacy or for recipe dispensing. After completing the course, the candidates can also open their drug store or can be employed as medical representatives. They can also pursue B. Pharm by taking lateral entries to the second year in B. Pharm is based on achievement.
Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm)
B. Pharm is a 4-year course needed for those who focus on working in the pharmaceutical industry. This course includes academic and practical training along with theoretical subjects. In B. Pharm, students undergo practical training (internships) in the pharmaceutical industry. A student after completing B. Pharm can be used as a pharmacist registered at the Community Pharmacy (Medical Store / Chemistry and Pharmacy) or a hospital pharmacy. After completing the course, candidates can be used in various pharmaceutical industries in production, quality control and research. They can start their careers in Pharmacovigilance. Four main subjects included in D. Pharm and B. Pharm are pharmacology, pharmaceutical, pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy known as pharmaceutical pillars. In pharmacology, students learn about the study of how a drug affects the biological system and how the body responds to drugs while pharmacy is related to the process of playing new chemical entities or old drugs into drugs that can be used safely and effectively by patients. Pharmacognosy is a study of drugs or rough drugs produced from natural sources such as plants, microbes, minerals and animals while pharmaceutical chemistry (drugs) relates to design (drug design) and biologically active molecular synthesis. There are many other subjects related to these four subjects.
Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm)
A B. Pharm candidate is eligible to do M. Pharm by qualifying for the competitive exam, Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT). The duration of M. Pharm is 2 years. The various specializations in M. Pharm are pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy and phytochemistry, pharmaceutical biotechnology, regulatory affairs, pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical analysis and quality assurance.
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D)
Pharm D is a professional doctor at a pharmacy where significant clinical education is provided for the use of drugs that are safe and effective. This is a 6-year doctoral-level course with five years of academic studies and one year of internship or residency. It includes important subjects related to community pharmacy, clinical toxicology, pharmacotherapy, clinical research, hospital pharmacies and pharmaceutical care.
Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (PhD)
The Master's degree is needed to get entered into a doctoral program (PhD). A candidate can conduct his doctoral studies in pharmaceutical science based on specialization in M. Pharm. Students can also pursue their PhD titles from many research organizations.
